Big City Greens in the Big City! (a Disney Channel exclusive)

Updated: Nov 22, 2019

Last night my boys and I were invited to an exclusive special secret Musical Holiday Episode of Big City Greens. The episode got us into the holiday spirit with their funny, upbeat holiday songs and had us laughing so hard with their funny family-friendly jokes. Can’t really say much about the episode since it was a secret screening, but let me just say you won’t want to miss it. It had a wonderful message about the importance of family and the holidays.

We got a chance to meet Chris and Shane Houghton, the creators and executive producers of the show. Big City Greens is heavily influenced by the brothers childhood growing up in the small, rural town of St. Johns, Michigan, with many of the locations and characters inspired by real-life family members and childhood townsfolk.

My boys were delighted to meet both brothers and they couldn’t wait to show them a picture of Cricket that they had colored prior to the screening, which they also got autographed. The Houghton brothers got to answer some questions while telling their story about how they first started working in animation and began collaborating with other big shows like Gravity Falls and Adventure Time, to name a few. They started creating comic books and build up steps that will eventually land them to work with Disney. The kids got tips for drawing Disney characters, and Cricket Green made a special appearance, well at least his voice did!! which we were all pleasantly surprised when we learned that Chris Houghton does the voice of Cricket Green.

My 8 year old gravitated towards the characters and all the jokes that he was able to relate to and understand at his age, my youngest who is 4 was just as impressed and he also loved every minute of the episode. The show is geared for 6 to 14 year olds but as you can see my youngest enjoyed it just as much as my oldest, so I would say it is just fun for the whole family.

If you’re new to the show, you will soon fall in love with all the quirky and upbeat characters. The series follows mischievous and optimistic 10-year old Cricket Green who moves from the country to the big city with his wildly out of place family-older sister Tilly, father Bill and Gramma Alice.

This musical holiday episode is scheduled to air the week of December 2nd but you can catch their first season on Disney Plus, which we can’t wait to watch to be caught up for their second season, which came out in early November on the Disney Channel.

We enjoyed the special screening so much and loved our #gifted New Big City Greens t-shirts which are available at Amazon.com/DisneyChannel including an exclusive design by creators and executive producers Chris and Shane Houghton. Fans can also check out Disney Channel’s Fan Shop on Amazon for more merchandise.

Tune in to the Disney Channel to watch this musical holiday episode which is scheduled to air the week of December 2nd, and catch their first season on Disney Plus. Can't wait for future episodes!
